Twist loop and waffle dry differently
A twist-loop towel is built from long loops of fiber that hold water inside the pile. You lay it on a panel, pull it, and it takes the water with it. A waffle weave is a flatter fabric with pockets: it holds less in total but drags more evenly and dries out faster between panels.
