What this is

Buff & Bead ranks car detailing products from published manufacturer specifications. Every figure on the site is traceable to a document you can open — a product page, a technical data sheet, an authorized-retailer listing — and every one of them carries the date we retrieved it.

Right now that is 162 products across 76 documents, covering wash and decontamination, polishing and paint correction, ceramic coatings and protection, interior care, and the tools that cut across all four.

Who it is for

Somebody who already owns the entry-level version of the thing they are replacing. You know what a dual action polisher is, you know why pH matters in a soap, and you are trying to work out whether a 15mm throw is worth eighty dollars over a 9mm on your particular car.

That means the pages here assume the vocabulary. They do not open with a paragraph explaining what a foam cannon is before answering the question you came with. Where a page is genuinely written for a beginner, it says so in the title.

What we will never do

• Claim to have tested anything. We have not, and every page says so. How we research sets out what we did instead.
• Publish a figure without a source. If it cannot be cited to a document, it does not go on the page. The row reads “Not published” instead.
• Let commission decide a ranking. There is no field for it in the product data and no term for it in the scoring rubric.
• Accept free products or sponsored placements. Neither has happened and neither will, and if that changes it will be disclosed on every affected page before anything else.
• Invent credentials. Nobody here is a certified detailer, an expert or a professional, and no page will imply otherwise.
• Publish a review or a rating we did not produce. No aggregate ratings, no star counts, no testimonials. There is no Review markup anywhere in this site’s structured data.

How it makes money

Amazon Associates commission, and nothing else. When you buy through a link here we earn a percentage at no extra cost to you. We have joined no other affiliate program, which is why every buy link on the site goes to Amazon, and why several pages name products sold direct by makers we earn nothing from — those pages say so explicitly.

Who writes it

Sawyer V., on every page. An enthusiast who reads the manuals, compiles the published specifications and does the arithmetic. Not an expert, not a professional detailer, not somebody with a lab or a shop — and that is stated on every byline rather than left for you to work out.

Why this approach at all

Because the alternative was already taken and it is not credible. Of the competitor pages surveyed before this site was built, five of nine claimed hands-on testing without publishing a single photograph, measurement or method, and not one of the ten cited a manufacturer document for any figure. One was a handicrafts site whose byline claimed an automotive detailing specialism.

We cannot out-test a lab we do not have. We can publish where every number came from, which nobody in this category currently does, and let you check it. That is the whole idea, and how we research is where it is set out properly.
