Acid-free is the whole decision
Wheels take more chemical abuse than any other surface on a car, and the finishes they wear are more varied: painted, clear-coated, powder-coated, anodized, polished, machined, chrome. An acidic cleaner works fast on all of them and permanently damages several. Once a polished lip is etched, it is a refinishing job.
Three of the five products here state acid-free or non-caustic in writing. Two do not state their chemistry at all. On a product you spray onto an unknown finish and leave to dwell, that disclosure is the specification, and it is why the ranking on this page follows it almost exactly.

Cling is dwell time, and dwell time is cleaning
A wheel is a vertical surface with a curved barrel behind it. A thin liquid sprayed onto it runs off in seconds and does almost nothing; a thick one stays where you put it and works. That is why Koch-Chemie describes Magic Wheel Cleaner as viscous, why P&S describes Brake Buster as thick and clinging, and why Chemical Guys sells Diablo as both a gel and a ready-to-use spray so you can choose.
The Diablo arrangement is genuinely useful and nobody else here offers it: the same chemistry in a clinging gel concentrate for barrels and a thinner ready-to-use spray for faces and quick jobs. Being able to pick the consistency for the task is worth more than a small difference in cleaning strength.
Iron-reactive wheel cleaners
Two products here combine wheel cleaning with iron removal in one bottle, changing color as they dissolve ferrous contamination. On a wheel that gets cleaned every fortnight, that is a convenient single step. On a decontamination pass across the whole car, a dedicated iron remover is more economical because you are buying the chemistry rather than the packaging.
If your wheels are coated
Acid-free, always, and preferably pH-neutral. Alkalinity and acidity both consume a coating, and the whole point of a wheel coating is that you should not need aggressive chemistry any more. A coated wheel washed with a strong cleaner every fortnight is a coated wheel that stops being coated inside a year.
Do the tires at the same time
