Dusty, not dirty — and the difference is your paint
A waterless wash is a ready-to-use spray for a car carrying light dust and film. You spray a panel, wipe with a plush towel, turn the towel, repeat. There is no flowing water to carry grit away, which means the product is doing all of the lubrication work on its own.
Used on a genuinely dirty car, that is not enough, and the result is marring you will need a polisher to remove. Two makers here state the limit in writing: Gen Labs scope Ignition to light dust and light grime, and their Eco Shine concentrate to heavy dust and normal road grime. 3D and Adam’s describe the use case as water restriction rather than soiling level. The rest leave it to you.
One maker publishes a durability figure
DRFT state that ADAPT leaves behind UV protection lasting up to a month, from named silica resins. That is the only durability claim on this page. Gen Labs describe SiO2 protection for Ignition without a figure; Mothers, 3D, Adam’s and P&S publish nothing on the subject at all.

P&S publish three uses for one pint
Epic Waterless Wash is published as three products: a waterless wash, a quick detail spray, and a drying aid applied between rinsing and drying. That third use is the one that makes an $11.98 pint worth owning even if you have a hose and never wash waterless.
It is also the cheapest pint in the group, which is unusual for a product doing three jobs. If you want one bottle to sit in the trunk and cover most eventualities, that is the one.
Technique carries more of the risk than the product does
- Use far more spray than feels necessary. A dry wipe is the failure mode; a soaked panel is not.
- One panel per towel face, then fold. A car needs several towels and that is normal.
- Never go back over a panel with a used face. The grit is in the towel now.
- Work top down. The lower quarter of any car carries road film that a waterless product is not rated for.
- If the car is genuinely dirty, stop. Rinseless in a bucket, or a hose wash, or leave it.
