Polishing and Paint Correction
3D ONE vs 3D SPEED
Both are sold as one-step products and they are two dollars apart, so the choice looks like a coin toss. It is not: one of them leaves wax behind, and that single difference decides which bottle belongs in your cupboard.

The difference is the wax, not the cut
Nothing 3D publish lets you rank these two on cutting power. Neither page gives an abrasive size, a grit-removal claim or a cut rating, so anybody telling you which one cuts harder is telling you what they felt, not what the maker stated. What the pages do differ on is what is left on the paint when you are finished.
3D describe ONE as a compound that finishes like a polish and claim no protection for it at all. SPEED is described as integrating the cutting power of a compound, the fine finish of a polish and the protective qualities of a wax, with up to six months of durability for daily drivers. That makes them different kinds of product that happen to be sold in the same shape of bottle.
Read 3D’s machine guidance carefully
3D give ONE a clear, usable instruction: rotary for aggressive cutting, or a dual action with a softer pad for a fine finish. That is a product you can aim. SPEED’s own listing is less certain about itself. It says SPEED is perfectly suited to hand application and a top choice for professionals on orbital or rotary polishers, and then, in the next breath, that it is not recommended for rotary polishers but still doable.
We are not going to resolve a contradiction inside somebody else’s copy. The safe reading is the conservative one: treat SPEED as a hand and dual-action product, which is also the audience its hand-application claim is aimed at. If a rotary is your machine, the rotary roundup pairs with ONE rather than SPEED.
SPEED claims more surfaces, including glass
3D publish SPEED for virtually any type of paint plus gel coat and painted plastics, and say it is effective on glass for light water spotting and road film. ONE’s page stays on painted surfaces. If you have a boat, a camper or a motorcycle in the same garage, the wider surface list is a real argument, and the gallon at $200.99 exists for exactly that person.
On glass, treat that claim as a bonus rather than a plan. Light water spotting is a different problem from etched mineral deposits, and removing water spots from paint and glass covers which of the two you actually have.
Who should buy which
- You will apply a coating, sealant or wax yourself afterward: 3D ONE, $22.99, because it claims no protection to get in the way.
- You want one bottle, one pass, and protection you do not have to think about again until spring: 3D SPEED, $24.99, at up to six months claimed.
- You polish by hand: SPEED, which 3D explicitly name for hand application.
- You work with a rotary: ONE, whose rotary guidance is unambiguous.
- Gel coat, painted plastics or a boat as well as a car: SPEED, which names them.
- You need to know how much either one cuts before you buy: neither, because 3D publish no abrasive size or cut rating for either product.
For the wider field, the one-step roundup ranks eight of these products together, and 3D ONE against Adam’s One Step is the cross-brand version of this same question.
Every pick, with the working
Each entry lists the specifications the maker publishes, the axis scores those specifications produce, and what you give up. Rows that read “Not published” are not omissions on our side: they are figures the maker will not commit to in writing, and they cost the product points on the transparency axis.
Our pickA one-step with no protection to get in the way
3D ONE Hybrid Compound & Polish
3D Car Care
$22.99 for 8 oz up to $58.99 for 32 oz, sold as a compound that finishes like a polish in a single step. 3D make no protection claim for it, which makes it a correction product rather than a polish-and-seal.
- Sizes
- 8 oz ($22.99), 16 oz ($29.99), 32 oz ($58.99)
- Stated role
- Cuts like a compound, finishes like a polish
- Protection
- None claimed
- Abrasive size
- Not published
What it does well
- Three sizes, 8 to 32 oz
- Positioned to cut like a compound and finish like a polish
- No protection claimed, so nothing sits between it and a coating
Who it is not for
- No grit or abrasive size published
- Needs a wax, sealant or coating afterwards
- 8 oz is $2.87 an ounce
How this score was calculated
- Protection claimdropped
- Nothing in this category is bought on how long it lasts, so the axis is dropped and the other weights are re-normalized.
- Capabilitydropped
- No single published number decides capability in this category, so the axis is dropped rather than invented.
- Cost per ounce2.5/10, weight 16%
- $22.99 for 8 oz works out at $2.87 an ounce, scored against a band of $1.00 (good) to $3.50 (expensive) for a finishing polish.
- Price against the ceiling6.2/10, weight 14%
- A listed $22.99 against the $60 one upgrade in this category realistically tops out at. A list price captured on the compile date, not a live price and not what you will pay.
- Written commitmentdropped
- 3D Car Care publishes no warranty term on this product's own page, so the axis is dropped. On a tool that is worth noticing, and it costs the product points on transparency instead.
- Spec transparency7.5/10, weight 18%

2One bottle that corrects and then protects
3D SPEED All In One Polish & Wax
3D Car Care
$24.99 for 8 oz up to $200.99 a gallon, sold as the cutting power of a compound, the fine finish of a polish and the protective qualities of a wax in one bottle. 3D publish up to six months of durability for daily drivers, which is the figure that separates it from 3D ONE, and they name hand application rather than only tolerating it.
- Sizes
- 8 oz ($24.99), 16 oz ($29.99), 32 oz ($58.99), 1 gallon ($200.99)
- Stated role
- Compound cut, polish finish and wax protection in one bottle
- Claimed durability
- Up to six months for daily drivers
- Dusting
- Zero dusting, stated
- Application
- Hand or orbital; 3D also write that rotary is not recommended but still doable
- Stated surfaces
- Virtually any paint, gel coat and painted plastics; glass for light water spotting and road film
- Abrasive size
- Not published
What it does well
- Up to six months of protection published, where 3D ONE claims none at all
- Hand application named by the maker, alongside orbital machines
- Four sizes, 8 oz to a gallon
- Zero dusting, stated
- Gel coat, painted plastics and glass all named as surfaces
Who it is not for
- No abrasive size or cut rating published, so the correction half is unquantified
- 3D's own page calls rotary use not recommended and still doable in consecutive sentences
- The wax it leaves behind has to be stripped before a ceramic coating will bond
