What a graphene coating actually is
It is a silica coating with graphene oxide added to the resin. The silica does what silica has always done — bonds to the clear coat, resists chemicals, sheds water. The graphene is an additive, and every maker in this category claims advantages around water spotting and heat rejection from it.
None of them publishes comparative data supporting those specific advantages. We have said so on the main coating roundup and it is still true here. What has changed since that page was written is that two products in this group now publish contact and sliding angles, which is a real measurement and the first genuinely checkable number this category has offered.
Contact angle, and why it is the only measured number here
A contact angle is the angle a water droplet makes with the surface it sits on. Higher means more hydrophobic, and it is measured with an instrument rather than asserted. Adam’s publish 110 to 118 degrees for both their Advanced coating and their Advanced spray, along with a sliding angle — the tilt at which water runs off — of 10 to 15 degrees.
Those are the only instrument-derived figures anywhere in this category on this site. They do not tell you how long the coating lasts. They do tell you that somebody put the cured film under a goniometer, which is more than any durability claim here can say.

A nine-year claim on a product you apply yourself
Adam’s Graphene Ceramic Coating Advanced publishes 9+ years of protection. Their standard Graphene Ceramic Coating publishes 7+. Both are the largest claims in this ledger by a wide margin, and both share a structural problem: a nine-year claim on a DIY coating cannot be falsified inside any timeframe that would help you, and cannot be verified outside it either.
We are not saying the coating fails. We are saying the number is unfalsifiable, and a number nobody can check is not a specification — it is a marketing position. That is why the 12 to 18 month spray sits above both of them on this page despite being the cheapest product here.
