Ceramic Coatings and Protection
The Best Ceramic Trim Coating in 2026
A dressing sits on faded trim and washes off; a coating bonds to it and stays. Two of these publish how long, and one puts the black back as well.

A coating is not a dressing
A dressing sits on the surface, darkens it, and comes off in the next few washes. A coating bonds to the plastic and stays. Gtechniq describe C4 as a covalent bond into the trim, and Turtle Wax say their graphene acrylic formula does not wash off. The trim restorer roundup explains the three kinds of product sold under that one name.
| Coating | Size | Price | Published durability | Color |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Adam's Ceramic Black Trim Restorer | 50ml | $30.00 | 2 years or more | Adds black dye |
| Gtechniq C4 Permanent Trim Restorer | 15ml / 30ml | $31.45 for 15ml | Not published | Optically clear |
| Beadlock Trim | 50ml | $85.00 | Up to 1 year | No dye stated |
| Turtle Wax Graphene Acrylic Trim Restorer | 10 fl oz | $12.00 | Endures seasonal exposure | Blackens |
| 3D GLW SiO2 Ceramic Trim Restore | Not published | $19.99 | Not published | Ultra-dark finish |
Restore the color, or keep the color you have
The first question is whether the trim is still black. Adam’s Ceramic Black Trim Restorer is a coating infused with black dye, so it puts color back into gray, sun-faded plastic and protects it in one step. Turtle Wax and 3D describe blackening and an ultra-dark finish. C4 goes on optically clear and does not change the natural feel or texture, which is what you want on trim that has not faded yet.
Cost per car, not per ounce
C4 works out at over $60 an ounce and Beadlock at about $50, against $17.75 for Adam’s and $1.20 for Turtle Wax. Trim takes very little product, so a 15ml bottle does more cars than the ounce price suggests; that is the argument the trim restorer roundup makes for C4. The durability figures are the better comparison: Adam’s publish 2 years or more, Beadlock up to one year, and C4 none.
Prep decides whether it bonds
Shine Supply publish the routine for Beadlock, and it applies to all of them: clean the trim with an all-purpose cleaner, wipe the residue away, rub the coating in, wait five minutes, level it with a clean towel, then take a second towel to anything that strayed onto paint or glass. The all-purpose cleaner roundup covers the first step.
What to buy
- Faded black trim: Adam's Ceramic Black Trim Restorer, $30.00, color and coating in one step.
- Trim that is still black: Gtechniq C4, optically clear, from $31.45 for 15ml.
- A clear coating with a published life and prep routine: Beadlock Trim, if you can buy from Shine Supply.
- A low-cost restorer that does not wash off: Turtle Wax Graphene Acrylic, $12.00.
Every pick, with the working
Each entry lists the specifications the maker publishes, the axis scores those specifications produce, and what you give up. Rows that read “Not published” are not omissions on our side: they are figures the maker will not commit to in writing, and they cost the product points on the transparency axis.

5Trim you want to stop dressing entirely
Gtechniq C4 Permanent Trim Restorer
Gtechniq
A 15ml or 30ml coating that Gtechniq describes as bonding covalently into the plastic rather than sitting on it, sold at $31.45 for 15ml. It is priced like a coating and behaves like one; the point is that you stop reapplying a dressing every wash, not that it looks wetter.
- Sizes
- 15ml / 30ml
- Mechanism
- Covalent bond into the trim, ultra-thin optically clear layer
- Stated effect on texture
- Does not change natural feel or texture
- Claimed durability
- Not published
- Published coverage

- Cure time

- Warranty
- Not published
What it does well
- Bonds into the trim rather than dressing the surface, which is a different mechanism from every tire-shine-style product
- Optically clear and does not change the texture of the plastic
- 15ml genuinely does a car's trim, because the film is measured in microns
Who it is not for
- $31.45 for 15ml is over $60 an ounce, which reads absurd until you compare applications rather than volume
- No durability figure published on the retailer listing despite the word permanent
- Removal is not straightforward if you dislike the result
