Rinseless or waterless, and how to tell
These are two different products for two different levels of dirt, and using the wrong one is how people scratch a car in a parking space.

The published dilution is the method
Optimum No Rinse is sold here in a kit at $24.30 with a sponge, and the listing publishes the number that matters: 256:1, one ounce per two gallons. McKee’s 37 N-914 is $24.99 for 32 oz and publishes three ratios instead of one: 1:256 rinseless, 1:128 as a waterless or clay lubricant, and 1:8 for paint prep. Obsessed Garage chose it specifically because it leaves no film to change how a wax, sealant or coating beads.
Measure it. A rinseless wash mixed by eye is either weak, which removes the lubrication you are relying on, or strong, which leaves residue on the glass.
The method, step by step
- Fill one bucket with two gallons of the diluted solution. A grit guard is still worth using.
- Pre-soak the dirtiest areas with the same solution in a pump or trigger sprayer, and let it dwell a minute.
- Work one panel at a time, top down, with a plush towel or microfiber sponge folded into quarters.
- One face of the towel per panel. Fold to a clean face, and when the faces are used, take a new towel.
- Dry each panel immediately with a separate drying towel before moving on.

Towels are the real budget
This is where people go wrong. A hose rinses grit off the car; without one, every piece of grit ends up in a towel, and a towel that has picked up grit will scratch the next panel. Plan on eight to twelve towels for a car, not two.
