The specification is quantity, and here is why
Clay works by shearing contamination off the paint. The lubricant is what keeps the clay floating rather than dragging, and the moment a panel goes dry under the bar is the moment it starts marring.
A first-time clay job on a neglected car will use most of a pint. People buy a 16 oz bottle, run short on the third panel, and start economizing — which is exactly the wrong response. Every maker here sells a gallon at roughly a third of the per-ounce price. Buying the pint is the single most common mistake in this category.

One maker argues against slickness
Every clay lubricant in this category is sold on slickness. Blending Company are the exception: they publish that Shine Mist is formulated for grab as well as glide, so the clay pulls fallout off the paint rather than skating over it.
That is a design philosophy rather than a measurable figure, and we cannot tell you whether it works because we have not clayed a car with it. What it is, is the only argument anybody in this category makes that is not a superlative — and it is a coherent one, because a lubricant slick enough to eliminate all resistance is also slick enough to stop the clay doing its job.
Chemical Guys publish the media compatibility
Clay Luber is stated to work with both traditional clay bars and synthetic clay substitutes — mitts, towels, blocks. That matters because synthetic media have become the default for most people, and they behave differently under lubricant than a bar does.
Blending Company state the same. 3D and Stjarnagloss do not address it. It is a small disclosure and this category offers very few, so it counts.
