Two routines, not two strengths
A spray wax is applied after a wash, one panel at a time, in about the time it takes to dry the car. A paste is a separate job: applied to clean paint, left to haze, buffed off, and repeated when the water stops beading. They are not rivals so much as two answers to how often you are prepared to wax.
What a paste gives you that a spray does not
More named chemistry per application. Chemical Guys name two carnauba grades - Brazilian white and yellow - plus sealant polymers and amino-functional resins. Turtle Wax name ten waxes, SiO2 and graphene polymers, and state that theirs fills light imperfections. No spray wax on this site names that much of what is in the bottle.
What a spray gives you that a paste does not
Time, and in two cases a second job. Turtle Wax publish ICE as safe in direct sun on hot panels, which no paste here claims. Mothers publish Super-Hydro as a drying aid on a wet car, and as a booster over an existing wax - so the spray can extend the paste rather than replace it.
Who should buy which
- You wash weekly and want gloss fast: a spray, and Turtle Wax ICE at 55 cents an ounce is the cheapest.
- You wax two or three times a year: a paste, and Chemical Guys Pure 3X names the most chemistry.
- You want both: paste as the base, a spray as a booster between applications - Mothers publish that use.
