Conditioner or coating
The kits split into two kinds. Adam’s pair a cleaner with a conditioner that carries UV blockers and is meant to be reapplied three to four times a season. Gyeon and McKee’s 37 pair a cleaner with a coating: Gyeon rate their LeatherShield EVO for 18 months, and McKee’s sell their SiO2 Leather Guard as a twice-a-year application.

Dye transfer is the coating argument
Light seats and blue jeans are the problem the coating kits are sold on. Gyeon name dye transfer, UV damage and spills for LeatherShield EVO, and McKee’s 37 say their Leather Guard protects against dye transfer, abrasion and spills. Adam’s conditioner kits make no dye-transfer claim. The leather protectant roundup covers the coatings on their own.
Test the cleaner first
Adam’s give the most careful instructions: test the cleaner on a small spot, and if anything other than dirt comes up on the towel, dilute it by up to 50% with water. Colored leather is where that step earns its place.
