Why film needs its own coating
Shine Supply explain the difference on their Beadlock Wrap listing. A coating for paint protection film is formulated to stay flexible with the film, so it does not crack or peel as the film moves; a paint coating is harder and more rigid, because clear coat does not stretch. The film also heals light scratches on its own, and a coating that stopped that would be a bad trade.
All three makers here address it. Nasiol state PPF Guard keeps the film’s self-healing properties, and Gtechniq list self-healing film among the finishes HALO V2 is safe on.

Two durability figures, and how to read them
Nasiol publish up to 18 months; Shine Supply say Beadlock Wrap lasts 2 years with proper maintenance. Both are conditional, one on “up to” and one on how the car is looked after, and neither is a test. They are still two more figures than most coating listings manage, and they let you plan a reapplication.
Matte and satin film
A coating that added gloss would ruin a satin or matte film, which is why all three name matte finishes. Gtechniq go furthest and state HALO V2 will not change texture or color, even on satin and matte; Shine Supply say Beadlock enhances color without altering the film’s original look. Matte paint care covers washing those finishes afterwards.
Prep is different on film
Nasiol publish the most complete routine: wash thoroughly, polish only with silicone-free products suitable for film if it needs it, remove every trace of dust, and work no more than a square meter at a time in shade at around 73F and 50% humidity, buffing within 30 to 60 seconds. Two layers go on an hour apart.
