The Best Bucket Dolly in 2026
A full 5-gallon bucket weighs over 40 pounds, and a dolly means you roll it round the car instead of lifting it. The differences are the casters, the locks and what the maker publishes.

Why roll the bucket at all
A full 5-gallon bucket of water weighs over 40 pounds, and the two-bucket method means two of them. A dolly lets the rinse bucket follow you round the car, so the mitt goes back into it after every panel rather than after every side, which is the habit the whole method depends on.
| Dolly | Price | Load rating | Casters | Bucket fit |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hi-Tech Car Wash Bucket Dolly | $39.95 | 250 lb | Five 2 in polyurethane, wheel and swivel locks | 3.5-7 gal, 12 in round |
| Grit Guard Bucket Dolly | $44.99 | 250 lb | Five urethane, two locking | 3.5-6 gal |
| Chemical Guys Creeper | $54.99 | Not published | Five swivel | 3.5-7 gal |
| Obsessed Garage Black Dolly 2.0 | $54.99 | Not published | 3 in casters sold separately, $21.99 | Not published |
Locking casters are the specification that matters
Driveways slope, and a dolly with no locks rolls away when you let go of it, usually toward the car. Grit Guard lock two of their five casters to hold the bucket on an incline. Hi-Tech go further and lock both the wheel and the swivel. Chemical Guys do not mention locks.
Check your bucket fits
Grit Guard list 3.5, 4, 5 and 6 gallon buckets; Hi-Tech and Chemical Guys go up to 7 gallons, and Hi-Tech specify a 12 inch round bucket. Three of the four hold the bucket with thumb screws into its side, so the bucket needs to sit snug in the ring. The bucket and grit guard roundup covers the buckets themselves.
What is not in the box
Obsessed Garage’s own directions describe pressing casters into the base of their dolly, and they sell 3 inch casters separately at $21.99. The base is also flat with no drainage holes; the retailer says he drills his own so water does not collect in it.
What to buy
- Most people: Hi-Tech Car Wash Bucket Dolly, $39.95, 250 lb and full locks.
- The same rating from the grit guard maker: Grit Guard Bucket Dolly, $44.99.
- A 7 gallon bucket and no need for locks: Chemical Guys Creeper, $54.99.
Every pick, with the working
Each entry lists the specifications the maker publishes, the axis scores those specifications produce, and what you give up. Rows that read “Not published” are not omissions on our side: they are figures the maker will not commit to in writing, and they cost the product points on the transparency axis.
